About the society
A shared past. A living connection.
Local people preserving local history, for the generations still to come.
Rooted in the community since 1983
The Town of Rockford records that the society was established in 1983 by local citizens who wanted to preserve the history of Rockford and its surrounding area for future generations. That local commitment remains at the heart of this website.
The things that carry a story
The society is associated with the Pioneer Museum, Military Museum, and Farm Museum. Together, their historical collections reflect family life, local military service, and the agricultural and ranching traditions of the region. Current visiting arrangements are being confirmed.
Our purpose — proposed wording
To preserve, share, and celebrate the history of Rockford and the surrounding communities through the care of historical artifacts, photographs, stories, and educational exhibits.
This is proposed editorial wording for administrator review, not a formally adopted mission statement.
History belongs to a community
A family photograph, a remembered story, or a carefully saved document can open a new window into the past. If you have materials connected with Rockford, please contact the society before bringing or sending objects. Acceptance and arrangements must be discussed individually.
